The Studio

As a small animation boutique studio, RocknRoll focuses on making quality, one of a kind animated products, ranging from commercial work, such as bumpers, leaders and commercials to independently developed animated shorts and series. And whatever we do, we do it the RocknRoll way:

We want to steer away from business politics and focus on what we do best: creating great animation. When working with clients, this means having a very open and collaborative environment, in which the client is very much involved in the process, from day one.

In creating an animation, we feel the goal or message is always paramount and that all aspects of the animation should serve that goal. This means that we first develop a concept that conveys the message in a clear and powerful way. We then develop a visual and narrative style that suits the concept and catches the audiences attention. Finally, we use whatever technique(s) necessary to efficiently and effectively create the actual animation.

We hate technology. Or rather, we hate being constrained by technological limitations. We believe the only way to overcome this, is to know as much as possible about technology. Here at RocknRoll, we’re well versed in all possible animation techniques and have an extensive knowledge of the different technical aspects of animation, ranging from camera equipment to the latest 3D render engines and compositing.

The Directors

Arjan van der Linden studied classical animation at the Cartoonschool in Amsterdam after which he continued his animation study at the Utrecht School of Arts (HKU) where he followed the Image Synthesis and Computer Animation (ISCA) program. After his graduation, Arjan started work as an independent 2D animator, applying his skills as character animator for studios like il Luster Productions, Studio Carambolas and Metropolisfilm, and directing and animating several commercial projects independently. He now works together with fellow animator Gatze Zonneveld.
Arjan’s interest for animation stems from an early fascination for comic books and the old Disney and Warner Brothers cartoons. After gaining a firm knowledge of classical 2D animation, he now aplies this know-how in a number of different animation techniques. In his work, Arjan focuses on character animation, in which he demonstrates a crisp sense of timing and editing.

Gatze Zonneveld studied animation at the Utrecht School of Arts (HKU). After graduating with a Masters degree in Image Synthesis and Computer Animation (ISCA) he got a job as an art director and 3D artist at Amsterdam based VFX house, The Ambassadors, where he worked on numerous projects for clients like Alex, Coolbest and Heineken. At the end of 2009 he decided to focus more on directing and developing his own projects, together with fellow animator, Arjan van der Linden.
Inspired by the 1950’s/60’s/70’s, nature, cinema and life in general, Gatze’s work is characterized by rich visuals, engaging atmospheres, the combination of different animation techniques (2D, 3D, stopmotion) and a lot of heart.
